Maria

Waking up in a strange world, with people who seem to know you, but who you can not find any connection to, seeing a stranger in the mirror every day. Living with dementia means living in oblivion. Tragically this disease affects not only the life of the sufferer, but also affects the lives of everyone around them. The person you love no longer recognising you, suddenly becoming their carer, and watching them becoming more and more helpless, in the knowledge they will never get any better. All this takes a tremendous toll, both physically and mentally and is emotionally devastating. I was able to accompany this process and tell the story of Maria.
